Silica-Gel

What is... Silicagel

Silicagel (silica gel), such as Silcarbon SGO50, is a highly porous adsorbent based on silicon dioxide. In contrast to activated carbon, it specializes in binding water molecules and serves as an efficient desiccant to protect sensitive goods.

Its advantages:

  • Enormous water absorption: Can absorb up to 40 % of its own weight in moisture and keeps the relative humidity extremely low
  • Chemically inert & safe: It is non-toxic, odorless and does not react with other substances - ideal for electronics and foodstuffs
  • Regenerability: the absorbed moisture can be expelled again by heating, making the gel reusable

The indispensable protection for electronics shipping, pharmaceutical products, laboratory technology and compressed air drying. Wherever moisture is a risk.

Features

Silicagel has distinctive material properties that make it an effective desiccant:

Adjustable moisture absorption depending on the model

Depending on the pore structure, different types of silica gel are suitable for dry or highly humid applications.

Recyclability through heat treatment

The material can be regenerated at temperatures above 120 °C, during which the stored moisture is released.

Can be used multiple times during the operating cycle

Thanks to its ability to be repeatedly regenerated, silica gel is suitable for long-term use in technical applications.

Color-changing feature for easy status monitoring

Color indicators allow you to see the material's moisture level at a glance, making it easy to plan maintenance and replacement.

Indicator systems without cobalt chloride

Silcarbon relies on safe color indicators as an alternative to traditional blue dye.

Applications

Silicagel is used wherever moisture needs to be reliably removed from air or gas streams.

  • Drying of process and inert gases
  • Dehumidification of air in technical systems
  • Protection of products and materials against moisture
  • Climate control of sensitive production environments
