Powdered activated carbon is available in two fundamentally different types:
Silcarbon TH90
A fine-pored material that is particularly suitable for removing small molecules such as chlorinated hydrocarbons, pesticides, oils, and aromatic compounds.
Silcarbon CW20
An open-cell material that is primarily used to bind larger molecules, such as food colorants.
Applications
Powder activated carbon is primarily used to remove organic contaminants from liquids, including:

- Purification of foodstuffs, e.g., sugar or edible oil
- Removal of pesticides, oils, and aromatics in the chemical industry
