Demoisturizing
Silica gels are mainly used to dehumidify air or gases. Water is removed from the gaseous media by means of adsorption on the surface area of the silica gel.
The adsorption capacity depends on the pore structure as is depicted in the diagram below.

From the graphs it can be concluded that A-type silica gels adsorb better when moisture must be removed at low relative humidity. Therefore A-type products have a longer life time when low moisture contents in air or gas must be achieved. This is the most common silica gel that is used.
B-types or large porous silica gels adsorb with higher capacity if the relative humidity is very high, i.e. over 70%. .It is mainly used in areas where condensation must be prevented. A combination of A and B-type is also applied when both characteristics are required.
