Molecular Sieve
SILCARBON molecular sieves are crystalline zeolithes with a definitive pore size structure. Due to the specific pore size a molecular sieve can separate molecules with larger sizes from molecules with smaller sizes than the pore size opening of the molecular sieve in a gas / air stream. Besides various substances can be removed from the treated gas / air stream through catalytic reactions with subsequent adsorption.
Following molecular sieves are supplied in standard size 1,6 – 2,5 mm and 2 – 5 mm:
Silcarbon MS3A: 3 Angstrom molecular sieve
Silcarbon MS4A: 4 Angstrom molecular sieve
Silcarbon MS5A: 5 Angstrom molecular sieve
Silcarbon MS9A: 9 Angstrom molecular sieve
Standard packing:
Silcarbon molecular sieves are packed in 210 litre (55 gal) drums or bigbags (400 – 900 kgs)
Silcarbon MS3A is mainly used for drying of gases and polar liquids, such as alcohols, and easily polymerizing hydrocarbons such as ethylene, propylene, acetylene and butadiene. Regeneration may be carried out by increasing the temperature up to 180°C - 250°C (not exceeding 300°C), and/or reducing the pressure or using a suitable purge gas.
SILCARBON MS4A is a synthetically manufactured 4 A molecular sieve. Silcarbon MS4A is mainly used for drying technical and noble gases as e.g. H2, N2, He, Ar and organic liquids and liquefied gases, such as solvents, oils, gasoline. Regeneration may be carried out by increasing the temperature up to 200°C - 300°C (not exceeding 450°C), and/or reducing pressure or using a suitable purge gas.
SILCARBON MS5A is a synthetically manufactured 5A molecular sieve. Silcarbon MS5A is mainly used for drying and desulphurization of natural gas, for generating vacuum in thermocontainers and sorption pumps, for the manufacturing of protective gases, for the removal of CO2. and for the separation of normal paraffin from cyclic hydrocarbons. Besides, Silcarbon MS5A is used for the selective adsorption and separation of polar molecules from mixtures with less polar molecules.
Regeneration may be carried out by increasing the temperature up to 200°C - 350°C (not exceeding 450°C), and/or reducing the pressure or using a suitable purge gas.
SILCARBON MS9A is a synthetically manufactured 9A molecular sieve. Silcarbon MS9A is mainly used for the elimination of trace contaminants from air and other gases. It is also used for desulphurization (sweetening) of natural gas and other fluids, especially for the removal of mercaptanes and for drying of gases and liquids. Besides, Silcarbon MS9A is applied in the non-cryogenic oxygen enrichment from air using PSA. Also Silcarbon MS9A is used as regenerative thermo-chemical energy storage for solar energy generation.
